Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited situations in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Allamakee County Criminal History, you accept these data practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider that operates it. That provider processes the request and supplies the response. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email sent to us when needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

When a page loads, server systems may receive basic technical and usage details:

  • Page-view times and dates
  • The referring website, when one is available
  • Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
  • Device type and operating system
  • Browser type and version
  • The device's assigned IP address

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files stored on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand traffic in aggregate, including which pages draw visits and where sessions end. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Diagnosing faults and correcting technical problems
  • Maintaining site availability, performance, and speed
  • Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
  • Routing a submitted search to the relevant partner service
  • Evaluating which pages are useful and which need improvement

No Criminal-Record Data on File

We do not maintain, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The site identifies where Allamakee County records may be requested, including sheriff dispatch, the Iowa District Court clerk, Iowa DCI, and the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is handled under that partner's privacy policy, not this policy. Partners control their own retention and disclosure practices. Read those terms before entering a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Iowa agencies, court systems, sheriff pages, legal resources, or outside search providers. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms govern. Review them before providing personal information.

Some advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not operate that tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal data. Limited information may be available to:

  • Advertising networks that serve ads on the pages
  • Search providers that process a query submitted to their tool
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and technical performance

How We Protect Your Data

Standard security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide added rights based on where a person lives and whether statutory coverage applies. The Iowa Open Records Law, Iowa Code chapter 22, governs records held by public agencies, while Iowa Code chapter 692 controls criminal-history dissemination and challenge rights. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian. At a minimum, you may:

  • Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
  • Request deletion of data associated with you
  • Ask that inaccurate information be corrected
  • Request a copy of information maintained about you

Updates to This Policy

This policy may be revised. An updated version and effective date will appear here when practices change.
